THE COUSINS
3b Barrack
Street, Cape Town
Folks, we’ve
discovered a hidden gem in Barrack Street, a pasta joint serving “the real
Italian food,” called The Nephews? The Nieces? Something like that; a familial
connection of sorts.
Never mind that. They serve the first
proper tagliatelle carbonara I’ve eaten in this town where it’s usually ham and
litres of cream. This carbonara has egg folded through the pasta and the most
superbly flavourful cured pork cheek. It’s simple, it’s robust and it’s
sublime.
The other
pasta dishes are good too, with particular mention of the spinach pasta
primavera with mint, basil and prawns, but this carbonara has warped my fragile
little mind. In a good way.
