Good curry vibes at Vintage India

VINTAGE INDIA
Mill Street, Cape Town
It was a dark and stormy night, well, it was wet and very cold, when we ventured forth to our favourite curry house, a favourite at least partly because it’s barely five minutes’ walk from our humble luxurious mansion but mainly because the food is unfailingly excellent.
We arrived early and the joint was kinda empty yet within thirty minutes it was jumping, a very good sign for Cape Town where reputedly hardly anyone goes out when there is a merest hint of challenging weather conditions. Vintage India must be doing something right and has been doing us like that for a long time.
“We” were the wife, the in-laws and moi. The four of us hadn’t been to Vintage India together for a while, though the wife and I often get take out, either just paratha and naan or whole meals. So, our return to dine in was a festive occasion.
Our shared starters were paneer pakodas and vegetable spring rolls, and the mains were lamb bhuna, lamb rogan josh, murg makhani and handi biryani with prawns, with sides of rice, paratha and naan.
Whilst I stuck to a couple of beers the other three motored through two excellent bottles of Rosé wine.
We feasted with gleeful gustatory gusto.
The bill came to R1685,00 before tip.
I’ve written about Vintage India once or twice before and the views I held then still hold very firmly. I can’t claim that I’ve eaten a curry in every curry house in town and there may be many others that are excellent too, but Vintage India is an old faithful in the way Saigon is. It has never disappointed us.
