Yumcious? Not so much.

YUMCIOUS
Cape Quarters, Somerset Road, Cape Town
I popped in at Yumcious, mostly because I’d recently been to the Bootlegger next door, for breakfast after visiting the nearby branch of my bank for the biometrics of a passport application facilitated by the bank on behalf of Home Affairs. There’s a gap between the online application and the date for the biometrics but it’s a damn sight more convenient than queueing outside the Home Affairs building, and fortunately there’s no desperate urgency to renew the passport.
I stepped into Yumcious at about 10h30 and it was mostly empty, in stark contrast to Bootlegger, but it’s still as elegantly lovely as it’s always been.
My breakfast choice was “Going Greek” (R94), which comprises two poached eggs on a bed of spinach, onion, peppers and such, with “saucy yoghurt.” No toast. A very light breakfast indeed.
The upside of the experience was that I ordered, as is my wont, two single shot espressos but received one double and one single yet was charged for only two singles.
The downside was, despite my request for medium poaching, the eggs arrived kind of hard boiled and there was no “saucy yoghurt.”
I know I should’ve sent the dish back but an imperfectly poached egg is no immutable deal breaker for me, so I ate all of it, drank my coffee and left.
The service was good, the coffee is excellent and the breakfast was serviceable.
The bill came to R138,00 before tip.
Afterwards, I wondered whether I should’ve gone to Bootlegger after all.
