Much more munch at Mochi Mochi

MOCHI MOCHI

Heritage Square, Buitengracht Street, Cape Town

We really love it here, and happily returned for the quirky vibes and the really good food in small bites but large enough for easy sharing, tapas-style and the prices are quite reasonable.

We ordered the eggs Benedict pan, the croque Monsieur pan, the wagyu beef pan and the chicken kare pan as our savoury meal, with a flask of excellent drip through coffee, and cheesecake and a chocolate anpan (like a cinnabun with chocolate rather than cinnamon icing) and weren’t only culinary satisfied but also quite full afterwards and concluded that we might’ve done well enough with just three savoury dishes and one sweet to share.

The croque Monsieur (with deep cheesy goodness) and the wagyu beef pan were the highlights, the chicken kare was good and we were relatively less impressed by the eggs Benedict, though, to be fair, it was the last savoury dish we ate and by then it was almost superfluous.

The cheesecake blew my mind when I ate it for the first time last year and it’s still awesome but, having had Basque cheesecake too, I’m in two minds which is the best. The Japanese version just seems a tad drier and not quite as light. But that’s hardly a criticism.

We got effectively two cups of coffee each from the flask, at R35 a person, which is a steal for this quality of coffee in Cape Town.

The bill came to R500,00 tip included.
