Brunch and lunch at Lazari

 30 August 2024

LAZARI

221 Vredehoek Avenue (corner with Upper Maynard Road), Lower Vredehoek, Cape Town

Lazari is a long-time favourite of ours, for ambience, quality of food and, particularly for the wife, their cupcakes. A real go to old faithful.

Today we popped in after gym (yes, that place where one exercises for at least 40 minutes until one raises a sweat, two or three times a week) for a restorative bite.

A wonderful benefit of frequenting Lazari is that you can order breakfast all day and you can also order lunch from 11h00.  Seeing as how we arrived at roughly noon, we could indulge in our respective proclivities: the wife ordered the breakfast dish of chicken livers and crusty toasted sourdough bread (R115), with additional poached egg (R16), and I had the lunch offering of a green quinoa salad (R135).

The livers were sumptuously creamy and flavourful and the egg was poached to order.

The salad was wholesome, filling and packed with the goodness of avocado, peas, broccoli and a variety of seeds and nuts. I removed the raw onion.

We agreed that both of us had a yummy meal.

We also agreed that the coffee, a flat white and an espresso, wasn’t to our taste. It has a sour acidity we don’t care for and even the sweetener in my espresso couldn’t mitigate the unpleasantly sour taste.

The bill came to R338,00 before tip.

The vibe at Lazari is good, the food is excellent, the service is friendly and efficient but we can’t recommend the coffee unless an acidic trip floats your boat merrily, merrily downstream.
