Guardian Peak again.

GUARDIAN PEAK

Annandale Road, off the R44, Stellenbosch

(This is yet another piece with little visual appeal because I’d not intended writing it and have pics of only my own meal. Big sorry!)

Guardian Peak is fast becoming one of our go-to Winelands restaurants for consistent quality of food and an unsurpassed valley and mountain view.  The only downside for me is that they sell only wine, and cognac, none of which I drink, though we overcame that challenge today by ordering a bottle of MCC Brut. I still quaff bubbles.

The others also shared a bottle of  their excellent Afrikaans Vol. IV Cabernet/Cinsault blend and a bottle of Cinsault. I think those are red wines.

The wine prices are very reasonable and the vino is excellent (so I’m told.)

It was a third visit for our party of five, two gals and three guys, one of whom has eyes only for the pork chop (previously referred to as the “pork chop prophet”), which is a monster of a thing but a smidgen too generous for me.

My starter was the salt and pepper squid (R95)

, my main course was the chickpea and vegetable curry, with tofu and rice, (R195)

and I finished with a slice of baked cheese cake with pecan nuts (R85).

The savoury courses were tasty enough but that cheesecake almost warped my already fragile mind. It had the perfect smooth, dry, yet not arid, texture that is my ideal of a baked cheesecake; it wasn’t too sweet either and the nuts provided extra texture. Perfection.

The only other starter comprised of bobotie spring rolls (R105), which the wife shared with the guy who ordered them but was daunted by the quantity, and the consensus was that they were scrumptious.

The wife’s main course was a superb 200g beef fillet with Bearnaise sauce (R270), there was the aforementioned gargantuan pork chop (R255) (which went down a treat, again) and two chicken pies (R185 each).

The wife was the only other member of the party who ordered a dessert, a vanilla ice cream cone.

Everybody was quite happy and well fed.

The bill came to R2 135,00 before tip.

The food is quality bistro fare, with no pretensions, and the quantities are generous. Service is efficient and friendly and, if I’ve not mentioned it before, that view emphasises over and over again how beautiful the Western Cape is.
