No wisdom at the Three Wise Monkeys

THREE WISE MONKEYS
La Rhone Building, 77Regent Road, Sea Point
Being always in search of more wisdom and passing by after a. leisurely perambulation along the hot, bustling Regent Road gawking at the grooviness around me, I popped into a dim, cool oasis tempted by the offerings of sushi / ramen / poké.
There is counter seating on the street side, banquette seating against one side wall and many small tables, and a service counter and kitchen on the far side from the banquette. The calmness and zen of the interior contrasted sharply with the sharp light outside and striding pedestrians who seemed intent on processing their holidays with vim and vigour.
I wasn’t in the mood to be poked and didn’t relish rice and raw fish, so ramen it would be.
Weirdly, Three Wise Monkeys does not offer coffee. I got a good-sized glass of orange juice (R32) and ice, possibly more apt for the heat of the day than an espresso. It was sublimely refreshing.
The beef brisket ramen (R140) (served in a bowl of thin, coloured tin or aluminium) was quite delightful, with generous portions of meat, vegetable matter and noodles and a superbly spicy broth with ever so much depth of flavour. Hugely enjoyable and deeply satisfying as a light yet filling meal.
Was I any the wiser?
Naah, I wasn't even better informed.
