A Good time at Liquorice & Lime

LIQUORICE & LIME

162 Kloof Street, Cape Town

For our first restaurant meal in Cape Town after 14 days of extreme heat in Türkiye we headed to Liquorice & Lime, one of our favourite, consistently excellent, eateries, not only for a meal but also for their supremely good scones.

The wife chose her top favourite dish here, the chicken mayo tramezzini with a fresh salad (R128) and with mushrooms to replace the pickles (R26)

and I opted for one of the daily specials, chipotle flavoured beans, chorizo and two poached eggs on flat bread (R115).

We drank one espresso and three cappuccinos.

The chicken mayo is almost extravagantly abundant and very delicious. My dish was as generous, with perfectly poached eggs and a cheeky hit of chilli warmth that didn’t outstay its welcome.

We love Liquorice & Lime but the specific reason we were here today, was because they serve really excellent scones (R60 for two) and it was with scones we capped our delightful meals.

The scones were fresh, light and fluffy, served with butter, jam and cream.  There are few baked  items better and more heartwarming, for me anyway, that a really good scone, and these are good. We ordered two more to take home.

The food at Liquorice & Lime is always good but our nosh seemed extra specially scrumptious after two weeks of Turkish food, which we generally quite like but can become a bit much over time.

The bill, including coffee, came to R511,00  before tip. It is great to have reliable stalwarts like L&L in the hood where you know you can always trust to find a tasty morsel. Also, the place has a real neighbourhood feel; everyone feels welcome, from significantly senior citizens to the younger hip crowd to the locals with their dogs.
